After close to 3/4th's of a year living in my new hometown, I've finally gotten my hands on a library card. I took the trip downtown to the main branch to activate my card & to check out my first batch of books: random sci-fi/fantasy because I don't really know any good straight fiction authors any more, a book on the Knights Templar and one about the Pagan -> Christianity conversion in Europe by the author of Moorish Spain. The trip ended up being a bit of an experience because the main branch is quite the interesting piece of architecture: uniquely shaped glass + metal exterior that lets lots of light in, very open first three floors with fiction + featured books + computers + library services, yellow escalators and a spiral stack. I'm sure those of you with the photo fetish would love wandering about getting interesting shots out of the place; the rest of us will try to figure out where everything is before giving up and looking at the map.
Call me crazy, but I probably would have just used the map in the first place.
