there and back

On Friday night, I got semi-coerced into going to visit my parents' house this weekend.

I had been thinking about making a trip to see the Parentals earlier in the week. They just returned from South Africa Monday or Tuesday, so I figured it'd be a nice gesture to make the sojourn. Plus schedule-wise, this would be the ideal weekend since The General and Sexxy Vince's band is having their debut concert this upcoming weekend.

However, by Friday night, I was feeling rather "eh" and just wanted to slum around the pad. So when my da called asking for a ride back from the airport on Saturday, I just gave in and said yes. Thankfully, it worked out quite well: I had a nice meal and got to relax some place that feels like a home (don't quite get that vibe from my rented place).

The nice side-bonus of going home this weekend was the gifts. Whenever the Parentals come back from some far away place, they always bring neat sorts of knick-knacks home as souvenirs. Since they just returned from South Africa, I got to take back my share of the booty: a polished stone elephant and a carved + painted wood giraffe. They're both quite lovely and fit in quite well with my assorted pictures and small art pieces.

Sadly, I didn't score any South African wines. The Pinotage (a blend of Pinot Noir and another red grape) he described sounded quite nice. I guess I'll have to console myself with the two bottles of Cote du Rhone Villages. Quelle dommage!
