well, golly

Look at us go.

Morningboss is in Italy for three weeks. I thought this was going to be a good thing - have the office to myself for awhile, not always have someone looking over my shoulder, etc. This is not the case. What it means is that I have to do her full-time job plus my part time job in the part-time job slot. And yes, I am still doing my other part-time job during the rest of the day. In fact, it’s the “busy season” for the other half of my job, which means that in a few days I will be facing a similar dilemma over on that side as well. I am not allowed any overtime. I am told that I will have one of the board members come in to help me out. She doesn’t have a day job, so she is volunteering. I am expected to be happy about this situation, when in reality I just want to scream. No, my job is not just hack work. No, my job is not all completely menial and trivial. No, you have no idea what I actually DO in here, and if you expect me to just hand it over to someone you are sorely mistaken. “Here, I know you know nothing about what happens in here, but I’m going to have you do my boss’s job for awhile. Normally, this isn’t stuff I’m even allowed to touch - have at it!” I am so disillusioned right now. Many of the people I like here are about to quit. I am starting to feel like a rat on a sinking ship.

Well, babes, if there’d been money in the budget, then I would have been in there helping you, what with my mad skills from the days when I was Morning Boss (but with no assistant…things have gotten slightly better). The good thing about having a board member in there is that there’s a tiny tiny tiny chance that when Those Who Make Budget Decisions become more familiar with What Actually Needs to Happen that things will improve.

Considering that there’s no money, the only thing that will really happen is that the Board Member will be really glad that she doesn’t acutally have to do that job.

Can you get comp time for overtime? That trick used to work. I know that’s a bit of a paradox, but at least you could skip Morning Boss comes back…

Ooh. That’s a great idea. I’ll give that a try.

Everyone has been getting an update recently about forthcoming cuts. I’m not divulging too much info by saying that - all the employees are getting that spiel this week. Whether board member realizes that things need to improve or not, there’s no $ coming our way. It’s pretty sad.

True about the no money thing, but it’s not like a huge wad (or even a tiny one) of cash would fix the admin problems. With less money in the future, it’s even more important that people start being sincerely told that they’re smart and pretty in connection with the we don’t gots no cash.

The first year I started working there was the first year they finished in the black. It’s just been in the black for so long that it’s hard to remember those days we were crammed in at the Zoo and producing things like Heidi II. (Okay, I wasn’t there then, but no one went to see it either…so few that marketing had a joke campaign of “In the Alps, no one can hear you scream.”)

RE: comp time on overtime…. I just fond out the other day that overtime has to be paid, you can only comp people who are on salary.

at least that’s what my HR dept. tells me.

;)

Yet another example of how managment can always fuck their employees no matter where you work.

Hello rock. Hello hard place. Let’s call the kettle black!

Well, except here’s the thing. Here at Ye Olde Theatre Wherein I Am Currentlye Employede: we can comp salaried people. Anything is better than paying for expensive overtime, you see.
