I'm reading an article that says the airlines are in a fare war. I pull up a browser to see what sort of fares there are, and I get this for a flight Dallas-NY:
Continental Airlines 1130 1 stop
Depart: 8:15am Dallas/Fort Worth, TX (DFW) Boeing 737
Arrive: 12:40pm Newark, NJ (EWR)
Connect to train. Time for connection: 2hr 14min
Continental Airlines 9469
operated by AMTRAK TRAIN 176
Depart: 2:54pm Newark, NJ (EWR) Train
Arrive: 4:18pm Westchester County, NY (ZTF)
When did taking a train constitute a flight?
And, seriously, why would anyone want to take that option (at a total trip of 8 hours) when for $5 more, they can use the same carrier and take a plane for both legs at a total trip time of 4 hours??
Needless to say, I saw no evidence of lower fares on any of the city pairs.
